Teaching
ACE was established to help children achieve language fluency in English, and to obtain a higher academic knowledge of the language.
The school offers lessons from elementary to adult students. Lessons are given appropriately to meet the needs of each student according to their level. For adult lessons, ACE offers flexibility in material and lesson content to adapt to all different learning types.
Kid's lessons, however, for the most part are more constant in the way they are taught. English class for elementary and Junior High school students are divided into three periods:
- Computer session using the Reflex system
- English Conversation
- Grammar
Responsibilities
The main responsibility as a teacher of ACE is to monitor the computer sessions and teach the conversation period. Pre-school children classes are 50 minutes, elementary student classes are 30 minutes, and Junior High school students are 20 minutes. A standard lesson runs the following out line:
- Introduction and warm up questions
- Previous lesson review
- Vocabulary building exercise or conversation lesson
- Game that applies conversation and/or taught vocabulary
- Conclusion
As a teacher of ACE, it is expected that you represent yourself in a professional manor at all times. Image and presentation are two aspects which are highly criticized in Japan. Therefore to maintain the repetition which ACE has earned over the years, teachers need to be courteous to students and parents. They must dress in an order that reflects the status of professionalism, and act accordingly. Teachers are also encouraged to explore and learn the Japanese language. Knowing the students native language is beneficial and helps in gaining the trust and respect of the students.
ACE teachers are expected to help in lesson planning and future material development. Creative and effective lesson planning is essential in today's English schools of Japan. Without planning and productive lessons, students quickly look elsewhere for better instruction.
English learning doesn't have to be boring,
games and activities that help build interest and output of the language are encouraged, but balance is also required. Teaching English to speakers of other languages is not the job of native speaking clowns, but of talented individuals who are eclectic and have a firm handle upon the language.
Who We Hire
It is our belief that native and non-native speakers alike have the ability to teach English conversation. Therefore ACE hires English speakers from across the world. If you are in America, New Zealand, Philippines, or any other corner of world and have a bachelor degree (preferably in TESOL), we at ACE encourage you to apply for a fun and rewarding future as part of the faculty of ACE.
